Series reactor: mainly used to limit the short-circuit current, but also in the filter in series or parallel with the capacitor to limit the high harmonics in the grid.
Shunt reactor: usually connected between the end of the ultra-high voltage transmission line and the ground, from the role of reactive power compensation, balance reactive power, reduce line losses.
Other types of reactors: for example, filter reactors are used in rectifier circuits to reduce the amplitude of ripple on DC current, or to eliminate the voltage or current of a certain harmonic in power circuits; smoothing reactors are used in DC circuits after rectification to smooth the DC current output from rectification.
